Failing to Launch Right Costs you Big-Time
Mistake #2: (from the series Six Fatal Mistakes Presenters Make)
The Long Launch It doesn’t have to be that way….yet, we presenters keep making the same mistakes again and again. Why? Because we’re copying someone. We don’t realize the strategy they’re using is actually hurting them, not helping them.
Who are these presenters? Anyone who gets up in front of an audience as a speaker, facilitator, salesperson, or coach. (This applies to you, too, if you’re a real estate agent doing listing and buyer presentations!).
Watch this quick video here.
Mistake #2: The Long Launch You’ve paid your money. You’ve cleared your schedule. You’re excited to hear the speaker. Now, she launches…..and spends the first 20 minutes in chit-chat. She talks about the weather, the flight, lunch—anything but the subject! How long before you get bored? 3 minutes? 5 minutes? 10 minutes? The Long Launch is a killer
The new rule is: Get the audience up and doing something (not just answering a question from their seats!!) in the first two minutes of your presentation. Jump right into it.
Why? As you’ll learn in my live Instructor Development Workshop Workshop and Train the Trainer online course, I show you how to ‘shatter the paradigm’. That is, do something unexpected. Your audience has been trained to sit quietly, critique the speaker, and be that passive listener. Not too exciting, huh? So, shake it up. Turn the spotlight on them, and rev up their engines.
Let me know how these launch strategy helps your audience stay attentive!
Six Fatal Mistakes: In this quick video series, you’ll see the six mistakes we presenters make. I’ve created one mistake per video. And, you’ll get some tips on how to replace these mistakes with strategies and techniques that work–every time.
